Why It’s Time to Ditch Your New Year Resolutions

What?? You haven’t heard of this yet? Apparently in January there is a day specifically for this. Mind blowing!

This is for those of you that made resolutions and that have already decided, ‘it's not working’, and think you've given up yet again

I'm here to let you know … that it's not that you can't do it. There are either 1 of 2 things going on.

Reason #1 It could be that you simply don't believe you can have that goal and your habits to create it, don't exist. You may think it takes too long.

Example: I did not grow up working out and creating a habit of going to the gym nor working out. My physical activity was playing outside, taking classes that are fun and active, running, rollerblading, among many others.

Therefore, it's a fantasy for me to put down I'm going to work out at the gym 5 times a week, from 1 week to the next. NO! This will not happen.

How can we turn this around? First thing to do is to see what you have been focusing on and creating. This could be in any area of life: Spiritual, Mental, Vocational, Financial, Familial, Relationships, Physical or Social. This is what you already value.

Once we have that information, then we look for and list all the ways that taking the literal action steps of the new goal will assist you in the areas of life you already value.

Example…

Goal: You want to write a book but you don't even journal or write everyday.

Problem: finding the time to write. You also love spending time at the gym.

Solution: write a list of all the action steps of writing a book: actual writing, researching a topic (depending on what you're writing about), editing, proofreading, taking a writing class perhaps, hiring a coach (perhaps), figuring out or hiring someone to publish your book, then there's marketing the book, launching, and pricing… your list could be short or long… depending on your dream, which we just turned into a vision to make it reality.

NOW this is where you ask yourself "how is every action step (you wrote from above steps) to writing your book going to help you with your fitness goals?" (current high value).

Mindset: what you don't see moving towards your goals, you will perceive them as blocks. You will think it's selfish to want to write a book, or the many brain noises that come into your head that will tell you all the reasons you're not good enough to be an author, who are you to write a book, etc. we don't move towards our dreams because your brain doesn't have a path to get there. If we speak scientifically your brain hasn't created the neural pathway to get there. I call it the train track. By asking these questions your brain begins to create the railroad track to accomplish your goal.

Reason #2 that you "gave up"… you don't really want it. It could be someone else's dream or vision for you! Someone else thinks and tells you, "you should become a lawyer, start a business, get x, y & z". You know what I tell those people… to F…Follow their own dreams and to let me be in charge of me.

Don't should on me and I won't should on you

(REPEAT that out loud).

If you are struggling with either reason #1 or reason #2, I can help you shift and move through the brain noise, and how to release all the "should's" in your life… that you picked up from parents, family, teachers, friends, bosses, co workers, religions, society, government and/or any other "authority" figure.

Remember You are the Co Creator of your life and this is … repeat it w/me 'My Journey. My Story©'
